Waterproof Rug Pad

Outstanding protection from water and moisture

Waterproof rug pads prevents liquids from reaching any surface to protect your floor from spills or pet urine that may cause damage or staining.

We offer three rug pads that provide superior waterproof protection: the Rug Anchor is a low profile natural rubber pad, ideal for keeping rugs laying flush on your flooring without any of the bulk. The Rug Anchor rug pad is the only waterproof non-slip rug pad on the market, ideal for keeping runner rugs and smaller rugs anchored while offering a durable spillproof buffer. Spillguard and Eco-Comfort are both waterproof rug pads that have a built in spillproof surface layer, designed for larger rugs that do not need non-slip qualities. The Spillguard pad is made with recycled materials and is approximately 3/8'' thick; while Eco-Comfort lends high-calibre cushioning with 100% visco-elastic memory foam and a 1/2'' cut.

No matter where it originates from, moisture can become a BIG problem in no time flat. A waterproof rug pad can be a cost effective and easily installed solution to a problem that otherwise could cost you thousands over time if not properly addressed.

Liquids of any kind absorb thru most carpets, rugs and flooring, causing damage that can include:

  • Hazardous mold
  • Dangerous mildew
  • Stains
  • Warping
  • Cracking, peeling and other damage

Some sources of moisture can be fixed or addressed such as leaky pipes, re-sealing your basement walls, etc. But some types are just not avoidable.

Take the following into consideration:

  • General dampness from a basement or outdoor area
  • Pet urine
  • Regular spills (kitchen, children, etc)
  • High humidity regions

So what can you do to protect your floors, carpet and rugs from moisture and water damage? We suggest using a waterproof rug pad designed specifically for preventing damage from moisture via:

  • Waterproof barrier
  • Enhanced air-flow design to dry out damp areas
  • Anti-microbial features
  • Anti-mold and mildew design
  • Easy clean up features

But do Water Proof Rug Pads Actually Work?

This is the million dollar question. And if they don’t, it’ll be you who is spending that million on new flooring.

The short answer is “yes,” and “no.” Really it depends on a few key factors that we’ll cover below. Presuming that you follow these guidelines, and that you use a reputable waterproof rug pad manufacture who has TESTED their product, you’re flooring will be protected for years to come.

What to watch out for:

1. Imported Materials and Non-USA Made Products

When it comes to global commerce, we have nothing against buying from manufacturers abroad. But when it comes to waterproof rug pads there are some cautions to take if not buying USA made products.

For example, many overseas manufacturers (like those in China) use chemicals, sealants, curing agents and synthetic rubber. These can off-gas hazardous fumes and may cause irritation if in contact with the skin directly. For children and pets that spend more time on the floor, this may be an even greater concern.

At, all our rug pads are USA made right here in Connecticut. Furthermore, we vet and screen every manufacturer and ensure use of only non-toxic, natural and/or eco-friendly materials.

2. Quality Standards

This is where you’ll really have to ensure the brand has a strong reputation in the industry. For example, all our brands go thru rigorous on site and in-house testing to ensure durability, safety, and that they pass or exceed all industry standards.

A key thing to look for is the warranty information. At our selections carry a minimum of 10-20 year warranties, and a quality guarantee to ensure your needs are met to their fullest.

Poor quality can mean more wear, which can lead to damaged floors and rugs. Poorly constructed rug pads tend to degrade over time, leading to rips, tears, reduced protective capabilities, and failure of the water shield to prevent moisture from penetrating to the flooring below. This can mean thousands of dollars in damages to your hardwood, laminate or carpet flooring.

3. Design & Features

The actual design and features of your waterproof rug pad is extremely important. So much so that the wrong type of design can actually cause more harm than good.

In fact, poorly constructed water proof rug pads can actually TRAP MOISTURE under your rug or between the pad and flooring. This, as you can imagine, is a very, very bad thing.

Not only is it hazardous to your health by promoting bacterial, mold and mildew growth, but it can be devastating to your flooring. If left unchecked (when was the last time you actually removed your carpet/rug to take a peek?) it can cause enough damage to warrant actually having to replace your entire floor.

Here’s what you’ll want to look for:

  • Breathable moisture barrier / design
  • Strong protection rating
  • High durability rating
  • Hypo-allergenic
  • Mold + Mildew resistant

1. Basements

Moisture barriers in your basement might not make a lot of sense depending on where the moisture is actually coming from. If your basement is generally humid/damp (like many basements are), then a water proof rug pad might be an option. However, IF the moisture is coming up from the ground/floor, you might not want to lock that moisture underneath your carpet or rug unless you have proper drainage or ventilation to dry it out.

2. Pets

If you have pets in your home, it is an inevitable fact that they will, at some point, urinate on your carpet, rugs or flooring. Without any added protection, this can cause damage to your floors, stain your carpet and rugs, and promote unwanted bacterial growth.

Waterproof rug pads can provide a protective layer, preventing the urine from soaking into your hardwood or laminate flooring, and can reduce staining on carpets and rugs. Additionally, because of the breathable, easy clean designs, the correct pad will make clean-ups more effective and less cumbersome.

3. Installation

Unlike carpeting in your home, waterproof rug pads are easy to install and maintain. You won’t need any glue, tape, stapes or nails for our pads. Our waterproof rug pad selection all have extra grip strength as a standard feature, firmly securing to any flooring without the need for additional anchoring. And don’t worry, they won’t leave any stains or damage your floors either. At are pads are safe for all floors and are made of all natural non-toxic materials here in the USA.
